WIGMORE WARD, LUTON
On 26 September, Vote Elissa Gordon to help save Wigmore Park
My name is Elissa Gordon and I am standing in the by-election on 26 September 2024, to be the first Green Party Councillor for Wigmore Ward, Luton.
I’m a Wigmore local, having lived here my whole life. I work in Luton and usually get around by public transport, so I understand better than most the challenges we face.
I was frustrated with the lack of action about the real needs of our community. The Green Party really stood out for me in supporting the things I care about in my community.
I decided that if things need to change, I need to become the change for my community and protect its interests, particularly our local green spaces and green belt land and that’s why I’m proud to be the Green Party Councillor candidate for Wigmore.
Here are my top three priorities for Wigmore:
1. Stopping the Airport Expansion
- The planned new terminal will destroy Wigmore Park
- Increasing passenger numbers to 32 million a year will cause extra noise from additional night flights, and also more pollution
- Expansion will cause excessive disruption with roadworks, traffic delays & extra cars
2. Protecting our Green Spaces
- Stop the unnecessary Bloor Homes development of 2100 houses on Green Belt over East Luton when brownfield sites could be used
- Protect local parks for community well-being
- Plant 100 new trees in the area to reduce noise pollution
3. Protecting our Community
- Get more police support to prevent car thefts and vandalism
- Prevent residents’ parking being taken over by airport users
- Provide more community activities for young people to reduce anti-social behaviour
