In line with National Party standards for encouraging more diversity among Parliamentary Candidates, nominations have been re-opened in all four constituencies – North East Bedfordshire, Bedford, Mid Bedfordshire and South West Bedfordshire. The firm deadline for nominations is now 23.59 Saturday 29 June 2019 (by which time two forms from the candidate, on paper and signed by hand, and an appropriate number of nomination signatures -two or ten- must have been sent to me – some electronic means are acceptable for these nomination signatures). If you would like to stand in any of these constituencies, I can supply the paperwork.
At present the nominations received and other expressions of interest do not reflect the diversity either of our members or of the electorate.
Members of marginalized and under-represented groups of all sorts are particularly encouraged to apply. Extra efforts will be made to support such candidates – whether by national training opportunities or within the local party. I will be happy to provide information based on my experience of being a candidate three times for anybody unsure.
Please do get in touch if you haven’t completely ruled out the possibility of standing. I can also be phoned on 078 708 138 60.
I remind you that hustings for these selections will take place Thursday 4 July 2019 Quaker Meeting House, 5 Lansdowne Road, Bedford, MK40 2BY following the Luton & Bedfordshire Executive meeting. The executive meeting will start 7.30pm, with the hustings being approximately 8.30 pm – 10 pm, and that selections for the two Luton constituencies are likely to take place in coming months.
For people, peace and planet,
Luton and Bedfordshire Green Party returning officer.
